Therapy plays a vital role in maintaining the health of all horses. A therapist usually works on a self-employed basis and provides treatments on horses at regular intervals to ensure their musculoskeletal system is healthy and maintained sufficiently for the work expected of them, with a focus on reducing injury and enhancing performance. All types of horses are candidates for physical therapy, whether a retired horse with aching joints and muscles, a leisure horse, a competition horse or a horse in rehabilitation. Each horse will need a specific therapy approach to suit their individual needs.
Is this course for you?
If you are passionate about a career in Equine Therapy and want everything you need to be successful and well-respected, then this is the perfect training program for you. It is UK Rural Skills accredited, aligned to level 5 (6 Irish Framework), and aimed at higher education students.
The Equi-ed program is truly one-of-a-kind. It offers a comprehensive approach to training equine professionals by honing their practical skills in therapy and rehabilitation strategies. This results in equine professionals that are truly exceptional in their fields, able to implement customized strategies in accordance with the unique and in-depth assessment of each individual horse’s needs. There is an increasing demand in the equine complementary healthcare sector for top-notch professionals who possess both genuine care and the highest levels of expertise. At Equi-ed, we believe that every horse is unique, so we strive to provide individualized treatment to each one of our clients. We do not solely focus on teaching how to massage a horse, as that is just one piece of the total puzzle. Our program strives to contextualize a vast array of therapies to ensure the best possible results for both the professional and the horse.
Our team of highly skilled and experienced therapists have taken their passion for helping horses to a whole new level! We pride ourselves on providing top-notch services aimed at enhancing the natural abilities of your leisure or performance horse, regardless of their discipline.
There is a wide range of musculoskeletal skills that our therapists possess and are ready to bring to your horse’s healing journey. You can expect a personalised treatment plan that will assist in alleviating any pain and discomfort your horse may be experiencing. The course teaches you to become well-equipped with sports massage, deep tissue muscle release, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilization, and equine manual lymphatic drainage, to name just a few.
Our approach to training horses involves principles that are solely grounded on evidence-based research and an in-depth understanding of these magnificent animals. We are committed to promoting injury prevention to every horse that strives to be the very best.
The physical and emotional structure of a horse includes its anatomy, physiology, behavior, and psychology. Other important systems, such as the foot and dentition, as well as supplementary subjects like the horse and rider anatomical relationship and the suitability of tack and training aids, make for an all-encompassing program of study. We even have a unit dedicated to building a successful business and the legalities involved, including working with other professionals and abiding by the Veterinary Act.
The tuition fees for the course are very competitive given the high standard of training offered by Equi-Ed with the UKRS accreditation.
